I have what I like to call an agnostic stance on dieting. Agnostic by definition means: skeptic, doubter, a cynic, nonbeliever, rationalist. Yep. Those words all describe my perspective on dieting. There is no one-size-fits-all way of eating. For anyone trying to lose weight, the most effective place to start is by being rational with expectations, being realistic with portion sizes, and not depriving yourself of food you enjoy.

One of the main reasons I stay away from endorsing any one certain type of diet is that each one has its own form of restriction that often leads to failure, which can lead to yo-yo dieting, which is terrible for your hormones! Usually, diets like Atkins, Paleo, Whole 30, Weight Watchers, Mediterranean diet, Keto, AIP, or even veganism are unsustainable because the restriction eventually leads to some sort of nutrient deficiency. I’ll explain a few of those in this episode.

Be reasonable. Take small, easy steps that you can sustain for life and celebrate those small victories! If it took 10-20 years to put on the weight you want to lose, you can’t expect to lose it in a month or two. Above all consistency is a bigger component than any certain type of diet. When you look at anyone who has achieved dramatic weight loss via any type of dieting, something they all have in common is consistency. Not perfection, but consistency.

With any dietary change that you implement, ask yourself this: Would it be smart, reasonable, and sustainable if I kept this change forever? If the answer is no, you might want to rethink your strategy.
